Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-10-23
Homeschool AI is operated by Fishhosting, LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what's needed to run your homeschool, we don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across the web.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, our sign-in provider, Clerk, collects your name, email address, and sign-in details (such as a password hash or the account you sign in with). We store your Clerk user ID so we can link you to your family.
Family and student information you enter. Your family name, state and homeschool settings, school calendar, and teaching style. For each student: name, grade level, and optionally date of birth, learning style, and interests. Also curricula, lessons, lesson plans, grades, mastery levels, and notes you record.
Files you upload, such as curriculum PDFs and lesson attachments.
Basic technical information. Our servers keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser type, and request times) to keep the Service secure and working. The only cookies are the ones Clerk sets to keep you signed in and, on a student device, one cookie that identifies the device (see "Student devices" below). Your display preferences are saved with your account, not in cookies.
How we use it
Only to provide and improve the Service for your family: to show your data to members of your family, generate schedules and progress views, process uploaded files, keep the Service secure, and respond to you when you contact us.
We do not sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or use your family's data to train AI models.
AI processing
Uploaded documents may be analyzed by AI models that run on our own servers, for example to describe pages of a PDF. That data isn't sent to an outside AI company.
If you choose to connect your own AI assistant (such as Claude) through our MCP integration, that assistant can read and change your family's data using the token you create. Data it accesses goes to that provider under your account with them and is covered by their privacy policy. You can revoke tokens at any time in Settings → MCP.
Who we share it with
- Members of your family you've invited can see your family's data.
- Clerk (clerk.com) handles sign-in on our behalf and receives your account information.
- AI providers you connect yourself, as described above.
- When required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users, the public, or us.
- If Fishhosting, LLC is involved in a merger or sale, your information may transfer to the new owner, who must honor this policy.
Where it's stored
Your data is stored on servers operated by Fishhosting, LLC in the United States, with regular backups.
Children's privacy
Homeschool AI is a tool for parents. Parents and guardians enter and control their students' information. Children under 13 may not create their own sign-in, and we don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has signed in, we'll delete that sign-in account. Parents can review, correct, or delete any student's information at any time in the app, or by emailing us.
A parent can also set up a student device (below). The child still doesn't sign in or give us personal information.
Teens 13 and older may join a family only through a parent's invite.
Student devices
A family admin can set up a browser, such as a tablet, as a student device so a student can see their own schedule without having an account.
- A parent sets it up. A signed-in family admin names the device and picks which students can use it. Setting it up signs the parent out of that browser.
- The child never signs up or signs in. Children don't create an account or type in a name, email, or password. They tap their name from the students the parent chose.
- Optional PINs, set by the parent. A parent can give each student a PIN or password. A parent PIN is needed to leave student mode. We store PINs and passwords only in hashed form.
- What it shows. That student's schedule, by subject and time, and anything a parent sends to the student's inbox: the lesson title, the parent's note, a due date, and the names of the files the parent chose. It also shows the parent's notes on work sent back to fix and the sending parent's first name. Lessons a parent hasn't sent are shown only by subject. Files aren't opened on the device.
- What we store. A record of the device: its name, which students can use it, who set it up and when, when it was last used, and recent wrong PIN attempts, which we use to block guessing. The browser keeps a cookie with a secret device token, and we store only a hash of that token. We also store what a parent sends to the inbox, and when the student taps Done. Besides choosing their name and entering a PIN or password a parent set, tapping Done is the only thing a student does on the device. Children never type in a name, email, or other personal information.
- Turning it off. A family admin can revoke a device at any time in Settings → Devices. Deleting the family removes its devices.
Your choices and rights
- Review and correct. You can view and edit your family's information in the app at any time.
- Delete. A family admin can use Settings → Delete all my data to schedule the family for permanent deletion after 7 days. Until then, any family admin can restore it. After 7 days we permanently remove the family, its students, curricula, plans, progress, and uploaded files, and close the sign-in accounts of everyone in it. If a family's last admin closes their account, the family is scheduled the same way, and members can email support@homeschool-ai.app to restore it. Any other member can use Leave family and delete my account to close just their own (not while the family is scheduled for deletion). Copies in our backups are removed within 30 days.
- Export. Email us and we'll send you a copy of your family's data.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your family uses the Service. When you delete it, it's removed as described above. Server logs are kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting, then deleted.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls that keep each family's data separate, and restricted access to our servers. No system is perfectly secure. If we discover a breach that affects your information, we'll notify you as required by law.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we'll ask you to review and accept the new version the next time you sign in. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed.
